BeaumAnt Self Gua Sha — Handmade Korean White Clay
Most gua sha tools are jade or rose quartz. This one is baekto — Korean white clay, the material used for pottery — fired three times at high temperature until it is dense and hard. Each piece is handmade, shaped and finished by hand rather than cut from a slab of stone.
The practical difference is weight and grip. Fired clay carries enough heft to press with, without the slipperiness polished quartz has when your hands are covered in cream.
What Gua Sha Actually Does
Let us be straight with you, because this category is full of nonsense.
It does move fluid. Sweeping pressure encourages lymph and blood flow, and that is why a puffy morning face looks better after five minutes of it. That effect is real and it is why people keep doing it.
It does not reshape your face. A tool cannot melt fat, shrink bone, or permanently lift anything. Anyone selling you a jawline is selling you temporary de-puffing plus good lighting.
It is also just nice. Five minutes of pressure on your own face at the end of a day has a value that has nothing to do with contouring.
The Edges
The shape is not decorative. Different edges do different jobs:
- The wave edge for sweeping cheeks, arms and calves
- The pointed tip for pressure on the scalp, cheekbones and around the eyes
- The V-notch for tracking along the jaw and the sides of the waist
Never Use It Dry
This matters more than anything else on this page. Gua sha on bare skin drags, and dragging is how you irritate skin and pull at it. Always lay down slip first — a cream, a balm or a facial oil.
BeaumAnt's own answer is the Face & Body Liner Gua Sha Massage Cream, which puts the applicator on the tube, and the Body Line Gua Sha Maker for larger areas. Or use anything from Korean Moisturizers.
The full range is in the BeaumAnt collection. Related: Collagen, Peptides, Glass Skin & Glow and Sensitive Skin.
How to Use It
- Apply cream or oil first. Enough that the tool glides and never catches.
- Hold it nearly flat to the skin, not at a right angle.
- Light pressure. Gua sha is not deep-tissue massage. If it hurts or leaves marks, you are pressing far too hard.
- Always sweep in one direction — inside to outside on cheeks, upward along the neck.
- Three to five passes per area. Five minutes is a full session.
- Wash it with soap and water afterwards and let it dry.
Not over active breakouts, broken skin, or a fresh sunburn. And it is clay: it will break if you drop it on tile.
Questions
Will this give me a sharper jawline?
It will reduce puffiness, and a de-puffed face looks more defined. That is temporary and it comes back. Nothing you rub on your face changes its underlying structure.
Why clay instead of jade or quartz?
Baekto is fired three times until it is dense, and each piece is handmade. It gives you weight to work with and it does not skate around under a slick of cream the way polished stone can.
How hard should I press?
Much lighter than you think. Redness that fades in minutes is fine. Bruising is not the goal — that is a different practice entirely.
Can I use it on my scalp and body?
Yes. The pointed tip is designed for scalp pressure, and the wave edge works on calves, arms and the waist. Use slip on the body too.
How often?
Daily is fine at light pressure. Mornings make the most sense, since that is when fluid has pooled overnight.
