Korean skincare has spent a decade obsessing over the face while the rest of the body got a bottle of whatever was on offer. Korean body care is the correction — the same actives, the same restraint, applied below the jaw.

Body acne, keratosis pilaris, ashy shins, hands that get washed twenty times a day: these are skin problems, and they respond to the same thinking as anything you would put on your face.

Where to Start

Body breakouts. Chest, back and shoulders. Look for salicylic acid and other clarifying actives in a wash you leave on for a minute before rinsing. See Acne-Prone Skin.

Rough, bumpy upper arms. That is usually keratosis pilaris, and it is extremely common. It responds to gentle chemical exfoliation and consistent moisturizing — not scrubbing harder.

Hands. The most-washed and least-moisturized skin you own, and the part that shows age in plain sight because nobody puts sunscreen on the back of a hand.

The One Rule

Apply body moisturizer to slightly damp skin, straight out of the shower. A moisturizer works partly by trapping water that is already there. On bone-dry skin an hour later, it has far less to hold. This single change does more than upgrading your cream.
